The National won our division so this was a very good effort by everyone. Results were as follows: Lyn Greer & Kim Reynolds both squared their matches while Cathy Roussis (2/1) Kay Pridgett (4/3) & Lynn Gray (5/3) all lost to more experienced players.

WAS THIS REALLY A “WET” SATURDAY

The latest Monthly Medal was played in rather odd circumstances on Saturday. Quite a number pulled out because it was “raining”, leading to a prolonged lack of activity in the club rooms. My uneasiness gets generated under these circumstances, particularly after heading off to Rosebud to pick up meat trays, and returning to find four people sitting around a table, and Karen Rikken, on bar duty, cleaning up the dishes and emptying out the oil in the chip cookers. We do need more volunteers to fill these gaps. Anyone interested?

After rising at 5.15 a.m. I did my usual routine before golf: heat coffee, check the weather, check the official Safety Beach Melbourne Water rain gauge (which held 3.4 mm), showered, shaved, and off to golf. Did the usual, but a much better round this time, with the lightest of light drizzles dripping constantly during the second nine. Had a net 72, headed home to change, and just out of interest made another check of the rain gauge. The drizzle had produced a net 0.4 mm. Didn’t wet me at all. Sunday morning’s check revealed a total of one millimetre in the gauge over the period Saturday 5.30 a.m. to Sunday 8.30 a.m. It makes me ask if the morning golfers were a bunch of wimps. Thanks to the afternoon people and social guests who supported the raffle at a time of the year when so many disappear for one reason or another.

I’m pleased to announce that neither Tony de Corrado nor Tony Lever won raffle prizes this week. First Cliffex meat tray was won by Robin Hicks, who just happened to buy the last tickets. Robin has been feeling poorly for the last week or so, and no doubt Karen felt a lot happier with the end of the day compared with the oily start. Second meat tray was won by Kevin Biggadike, and the ever-limping Jack Simmons won the Crown Lager.
